Middle School Students Give Back

Our middle school students recently embarked on a meaningful service-learning trip to The Samaritan Inn, a local organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity in North Texas. This hands-on experience not only allowed students to contribute their time and energy to an important cause but also deepened their understanding of the power of empathy, compassion, and community involvement.

The students began their day with a guided tour of The Samaritan Inn’s facilities. They learned about the comprehensive services the nonprofit provides, from helping individuals secure employment to finding stable housing. Students were especially moved to discover that the organization relies entirely on community donations to fulfill its mission.

During their visit, students engaged in a variety of volunteer activities aimed at making an immediate impact. They helped organize storage spaces and sanitize toys in the children’s playroom, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for the youngest residents of the shelter. “It was really powerful for students to see firsthand how housing insecurity affects families, and especially children,” shared Miss Rao. “Some of the babies there didn’t even know they were homeless. It was a profound moment of understanding for many of our students,” stated Tagen, grade 7.

Throughout the day, our students reflected on what it means to serve others and the importance of kindness. One student noted, “You never know what someone’s going through, so you always want to be nice to someone.” Another shared, “The best part was just being able to help people who are less fortunate than us.”

Service-learning experiences like this one are a cornerstone of our Middle School program, nurturing empathy and fostering meaningful connections within our local community. By participating in these opportunities, students grow into engaged global citizens—confident in their own identities and committed to advocating for others.
