Sixth-Years Turn Ideas Into Startups

The entrepreneurial spirit was alive at Starwood Academy as sixth-year students took center stage for our annual Shark Tank event. In a dynamic display of creativity, critical thinking, and confidence, students pitched their original product ideas to a panel of sharks drawn from the Starwood community—special thanks to Mr. Orlando, Mr. Justin, and Ms. Anna for lending their expertise and enthusiasm to the panel.

As part of their curriculum, sixth-year students work through every phase of product development and business planning. From researching market needs and designing prototypes to analyzing profit margins and calculating break-even points, students gain a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to entrepreneurship. Their final challenge is to craft and deliver a persuasive sales pitch that convinces the sharks to select their product to be sold during the final StarMart sale of the year.

The stakes were high, but students rose to the occasion, demonstrating poise and passion as they presented their innovative ideas. The sharks had the tough task of narrowing down the pitches to just four standout products, which will be featured in StarMart’s May sale—a microeconomy that blends practical economics with real-world experience.

Shark Tank exemplifies Starwood’s commitment to fostering independence, innovation, and purposeful learning. Congratulations to all of our sixth-year students for their impressive work, and we can’t wait to see the winning products during StarMart!
